Liverpool fans hail Adrian

OPINION

Adrian has endured a very mixed time during the early stages of his Liverpool career. Initially drafted in with little to no warning to replace the injured Alisson on the opening day of the Premier League season before making himself into an instant Kop hero with some penalty heroics against Chelsea in the UEFA SuperCup final a few days later. Things took a turn for the worst when he made an absolute howler against Southampton a couple of weeks later, however, and his performance against Arsenal towards the end of August hardly inspired confidence. But judging by his first half outing against Napoli on Tuesday evening, he has put those wobbles behind him. The veteran Spaniard was making his debut in the Champions League at the age of 32, but didn’t show any signs of nerves as he made a sublime double save in the opening stages to keep things level. To be fair, his shot stopping should never really have been in doubt. Over the course of his 130 Premier League appearances he has made 445 saves at a rate of 3.42 per match, as per the league themselves. He was back at his sharpest in the opening half of his unlikely foray into Europe.
