Liverpool are set to rival Manchester City for the signature of Barcelona wonderkid Ansu Fati, according to Diario Gol.

The Spanish news outlet claim that Manchester United and Real Madrid have probed the 16-year-old’s agent regarding his availability in the future.

Diario Gol reports that Lionel Messi has intervened with the winger’s representative, who is the Argentine’s brother to negotiate a new contract at the Spanish giants.

The exciting winger started his first game of the season against Valencia on Saturday, scoring and delivering an assist in the 5-2 demolition job – his second goal of the campaign after only playing 117 minutes.

OPINION

There is a lot of competition regarding the future of Fati, who has really grasped his opportunity with both hands at the beginning of this season. The truth is though, is that after breaking on the scene at Barcelona, and acquiring fans such as Messi, it is more than likely that he will remain at Nou Camp. The 16-year-old has been getting better as each game passes so far in this La Liga campaign, and achieved an impressive 8.32 WhoScored match rating against Valencia. In that game on Saturday, Fati attempted three shots on goal and also completed three dribbles according to WhoScored, further highlighting how he has taken to senior football with ease and continues to cause problems for opposing defences. If the Guinea-Bissau winger can continue this sort of form throughout the season then his list of admirers will continue to grow, but Liverpool will most likely not be confident of securing his signature, and will be playing more of a waiting role in the unlikely occurrence that he becomes available.
