Kevin Nolan has picked out Liverpool duo Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane as two players who have the right to be selfish.

The former Newcastle man admitted that he believes all of Liverpool’s front-three are selfish players, but that they have to be when in front of goal.

Speaking on Stadium Astro’s YouTube channel, Nolan compared the Reds’ pair to Robbie Fowler and Steve McManaman.

“They’re all selfish and they’ll say it themselves,” he said.

“As forwards, you’ve got to be selfish.”

“When you had [Robbie] Fowler and [Steve] McManaman, you can’t tell me they’re not selfish footballers.”

Former Reds’ star Stan Collymore agreed with Nolan’s assessment of Liverpool’s attacking options, claiming it doesn’t matter how you play as long as you manage to score or assist a goal.

“If you play poorly but score, as a striker you come off and see as if you’ve contributed,” he said.

OPINION

Nolan and Collymore are absolutely spot on with their verdict on Liverpool’s attacking options – who will not care about anything but continuing their fine form. Both Salah and Mane caught the headlines after the win over Burnley before the international break after the Senegalese international was captured in a fit of rage after Salah failed to assist a simple tap-in. That appeared to be behind them in the 3-1 win over Newcastle as they celebrated together after both scoring at Anfield. The best forwards are the ones who usually end up with numerous amounts of goal involvements, and Jurgen Klopp will simply be sat on the touchline not caring who eventually ends up putting the ball in the back of the net, as long as they eventually do so. Roberto Firmino has become the player who holds the front-three together in previous seasons, and his ability to create chances will help Salah and Mane to carry on scoring, and put any debate surrounding selfishness out of the window.
