OPINION
Andrew Robertson may be one of the best left-backs in the world, but that has not made him immune to criticism from those north of the border. Some Scotland fans took to Twitter on Friday night to tear the Liverpool left-back to shreds for his performance in the 2-1 defeat to Russia in Euro 2020 qualifying. While Robertson is constantly praised for being one of the best in the business in his role in the Premier League while playing for the Champions League holders, playing in a team with players like Liam Cooper and Charlie Mulgrew, rather than Virgil van Dijk, is going to have some kind of impact on how you perform. Robertson simply isn’t used to playing with these types of players anymore, he is used to playing with some of the best in the world. Robertson has more freedom at Liverpool with van Dijk in the defence, he simply doesn’t have that luxury with Scotland.

Pretty horrendous Scotland performance. Forrest anonymous, McGinn, McTommeny, McBurnie all poor. Even Andy Robertson had a bad game. Awful

Andy Robertson is bang average.
Gets away with much more at Liverpool because he’s covered at the back. For Scotland, I’ve said it before, positional awareness just isn’t good enough.

Andy Robertson is a Charlatan. The same Darren Fletcher was with Scotland. It’s easy to play football with world class players around you.

Andy Robertson would have struggled to get into the Queens Park XI tonight, never mind a World XI.
