Steven Gerrard would be a “perfect fit” to take over from Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool manager in the future, according to John Aldridge.

The 39-year-old has been earmarked as a potential replacement by the German himself, as per FourFourTwo, and Aldridge claims that the Kop legend would be ideal for the role.

Writing in a column for the Echo, he said: “The Rangers job is like his apprenticeship for the manager role at Liverpool and I think he’d be the perfect fit for us in the future.”

OPINION

At the moment, it all feels as if things are written in the stars for Gerrard and Liverpool. Of course, nobody wants to see Klopp leave anytime soon, but if and when he does, there would be few people as well qualified or as widely revered as Gerrard who could pick up the mantle. Not only is the legendary ex-midfielder one of the club’s all-time greta players, but he also did a fine job with the academy, and has trued Rangers init genuine title contenders once again. So far, he has averaged 2.04 points per game at Ibrox, and should be commended for closing the gap on Celtic so effectively. A move to Anfield is still a long way off, but don’t be surprised if it were to happen.
