Jurgen Klopp made the right decision by recalling Alisson Becker for Liverpool’s clash with Manchester United on Sunday, according to John Aldridge.

The stopper had been sidelined since the opening day of the season through injury, with 6’3″  Spaniard Adrian deputising for him.

But Aldridge believes it was the right thing to do to bring the South American back into the fold, regardless of Adrian’s impressive form.

Writing in a column for the Echo, he said: “I think it was the correct decision to put Alisson straight back in, no matter how well Adrian had done deputising for him.

“He’s our number one and the best goalkeeper in the world.

“Adrian has been brilliant. Everyone respects him and thanks him for what he’s done.”

OPINION

You have to agree with Aldridge on this one. As good as Adrian has been, and it must be said reemphasised that he has been superb, Alisson is legitimately one of the best goalkeepers in the world, and it would be difficult for anybody to leave him out of a starting lineup. To be fair to Klopp, it was always going to be a catch 22 for him. Alisson didn’t actually do anything wrong prior to getting injured, and in that respect, it seems harsh to punish him. Equally, Adrian has averaged 1.6 saves per game for the Reds, as per Whoscored, with 2.5 saves per game in the Champions League alone. The only plus side from his perspective will be that he has surely ensured his place as the cup keeper for the rest of the season, and should still get a fair amount of game time, even as deputy.
