Ryan Babel sent Georginio Wijnaldum a message on Instagram after the Liverpool midfielder scored a brace for the Netherlands on Sunday.

The Reds central midfielder scored both goals in the Netherlands’ narrow 2-1 win over Belarus and took to Instagram after the game to celebrate his nation edging closer to qualifying for Euro 2020.

“Job done! Another important 3 points that gets us closer to @euro2020. Still a lot to improve, but very happy with the result and to contribute with 2 goals,” wrote Wijnaldum on his personal Instagram.

Wijnaldum’s social media update saw Babel send the Liverpool star a five-word message which effectively raved about the 28-year-old’s ability to run the midfield for his side.

“Buss (boss) the midfield like Wijnaldum,” wrote the former Liverpool attacker, via his verified Instagram account.

OPINION

It’s always good to see a Liverpool player register a morale-boosting performance while away with their nation, and Wijnaldum definitely will be full of confidence ahead of rejoining Jurgen Klopp’s squad following his latest display. The 28-year-old came to the Netherlands’ rescue, as it would have been disappointing for them not to take all three points from their clash with Belarus, and he did it in style. Wijnaldum showed great composure to head the ball home from six-yards out to get his first goal of the game, then wowed everyone by hammering the ball into the top corner from 22-yards out to secure the win. The only possible downside a Liverpool fan can take from Wijnaldum’s latest display is that it’s annoying that he seems to score goals for fun for his nation, but is rarely seen scoring for the Reds. While the midfielder does player in a deeper role for his club compared to his country, it’s clear he is capable of being more of an attacking outlet for the Reds. The 28-year-old has averaged 1.4 shots per game across his eight league outings this season, as per WhoScored, which shows he is getting in decent positions but he has only managed to get one goal so far. This isn’t a surprise based on his previous record in front of goal for the Reds, as he has only managed a total of 14 goals in 151 appearances for the club.
