Adrian Durham was blown away by the fact Liverpool have the same amount of Premier League points this season as Arsenal and Manchester United have combined.

Darren Bent told the talkSPORT broadcaster the fun fact during the station’s ‘Heads Gone Segment’ on the DriveTime show and Durham couldn’t believe it.

“Did you know that Liverpool now have the same amount of points as Arsenal and Manchester United added together?” said Bent on talkSPORT (18:38, Tuesday, October 22nd).

Durham replied: “Wow, really? That is amazing!”

Liverpool currently sit top with 25 points from the first nine games of the season, whereas Arsenal sit fifth with 15 points, while Manchester United are 14th with 10 points.

OPINION

While Man United fans are probably thrilled that their side ended Liverpool’s 100% start to the Premier League season by drawing 1-1 with them on Sunday, this stat will probably stop their party in its track. After all, to be 15 points behind their archrivals in the league is one thing, but to be able to add the club’s points with another top-six contender, and still not have more points than Liverpool shows how far ahead Jurgen Klopp’s side are. It’s also funny that Liverpool could have had more points than Man United and Arsenal if they had delivered the performance they were truly capable of at Old Trafford on Sunday. The Reds looked all out of sorts against United as they only managed four shots on target, despite dominating possession (Source: BBC), and big-name players such as Roberto Firmino as well as Jordan Henderson struggled to show their talents. However, while the Reds surprisingly didn’t sweep aside a struggling Man United side on Sunday, if they still ended up cruising to the Premier League title this season, no one will remember Sunday’s game.
