Andy Robertson is the best left-back in the world, according to former Liverpool defender Jose Enrique.

The 25-year-old Scottish captain missed out on a spot in the FIFA World XI back in September, but the Spaniard has claimed that decision was a travesty.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: “He is unbelievable. I’ve said it before, for me, last year he was the best left-back in the world.

“I know that was given to Marcelo but that was not fair in my opinion. Not just because Liverpool won the Champions League but because he has been an amazing player for Liverpool.

“He gives so much to that side. And him and Mane together [on Liverpool’s left] – I wouldn’t want to be on the right side for the other team.”

OPINION

The transformation that Robertson has undergone during his time at Liverpool is nothing short of remarkable. Initially unable to displace Alberto Moreno at left-back, he is now one of the best attacking full-backs in the modern game, and it certainly doesn’t feel too wide of the mark to suggest that he is one of, if not the, best in his position across the globe. HE already has two assists to his name this season, and has registered 1.3 key passes and 1.3 successful dribbles per match, as per Whoscored. Factor in a Whoscored rating of 7.20, and it’s clear that the 25-year-old is absolutely flying at the moment.
