Former Wales international Danny Gabbidon was blown away by the performance of Liverpool teenager Neco Williams against Arsenal on Wednesday.

The 18-year-old came into the senior team at right back for the 5-5 Carabao Cup  draw with the Gunners, which the Reds won on penalties. BBC pundit Gabbidon was very impressed by his display.

“What a performance by young Neco Williams!,” he wrote on his personal Twitter account. “Looking forward to watching him perform next month for @Cymru U19’s.

Looks a talent the boy #LIVARS.”

OPINION

This was one of the most accomplished performances for a teenager playing for a big team like Liverpool that we have seen for quite some time. Williams was absolutely brilliant for the Reds, proving that manager Jurgen Klopp does have a quality back up to starter Trent Alexander-Arnold moving forward. The Welshman was effective both going forward and at the back, while he grabbed the assist for one of Divock Origi’s two goals. The statistics tell us all we need to know about how dominant the youngster was against Unai Emery’s side. As per WhoScored.com, Williams made four tackles and the same number of interceptions. Furthermore, the right back made two clearances and produced two blocks. On the attacking end, he had an on target shot, bagged an assist, produced a key pass, embarked on four successful dribbles and was fouled twice. There’s no wonder that he came away from the game with a fantastic WhoScored rating of 8.20.
