Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has hailed Harvey Elliott for his “tremendous” senior debut against MK Dons in the Carabao Cup last week, and supporters should be very excited.

The teenager put in an impressive display in the 2-0 win, hitting the woodwork and looking lively throughout.

And his skipper has been quick to praise him.

Speaking to the Reds’ official match day programme, he said: “To see Harvey Elliott play as maturely and as confidently as he did, aged just 16, was tremendous.”

For a player of Elliott’s age to come into the senior side and perform as effortlessly as he did last week is nothing short of remarkable, and his outing will no doubt have left more than a few Kopites salivating at the prospect of what he can achieve in the future.

The 16-year-old was positive and direct throughout the game, and was very unlucky not to mark his senior debut with a goal.

Obviously, it is important that the club exercise caution with him so as to not overhype him, but with Henderson, one of the elderly statesmen of the side, extolling his virtues like this, it’s hard not to get excited.

Thrown in some glowing words from Pep Lijnders, as per the Echo, and that excitement seems justified.

Thankfully, Jurgen Klopp tends to operate on a fairly reserved basis when it comes to unloading young talent, as shown by the continued easing in of Rhian Brewster, and you can bet that Elliott won’t be given too much responsibility before he is ready.

When he is though, what a player he could be.
