Ince: Liverpool to win title

Paul Ince believes that Liverpool’s Champions League win last season will give them the confidence they need to go and lift the Premier League trophy this time around.

The Reds secured their first piece of silverware under Jurgen Klopp with a sixth European title last term, beating Tottenham in the final.

And Ince is of the opinion that that victory will set them up for great things this campaign too.

Speaking to the Mirror, he said: “What I like about Liverpool, from winning the Champions League against Tottenham, is they have that belief now.

“I think losing the title last year destroyed them, but the fact they had a game after and won the Champions League it gave them that lift – that confidence to win it.

“Last year I always felt like Man City would win it, now I don’t.”

OPINION

Ince makes a very valid point here. This Liverpool side looks like one that knows how to win now, and when you’re coming up against a team as imperious and experienced as Manchester City, that can be a real deciding factor. It’s easy to forget that for all of their success under Klopp, many of these players are breaking new ground with this title bid, and for many, their only previous experience of a title challenge is last year’s unfortunate disappointment at the hands of City. Now, however, with a little more knowhow and a lot more belief, there should, theoretically, be nothing preventing Klopp’s men from taking that extra step and lifting a long, long overdue league title.
