Roy Keane has heaped praise on Liverpool winger Mo Salah, claiming that the Egyptian is a “fantastic player”.

The 27-year-old returned the Reds’ starting lineup and scored the decisive penalty in a 2-1 win over Tottenham on Sunday after missing their last Premier League outing against Manchester United a week ago.

And prior to the win at Anfield, Keane was eager to hail Salah.

Speaking on Sky Sports (Sky Sports Premier League, Sunday October 27th, 16.15), he said: “Fantastic player. Nobody could have seen over the past few years how much this guy was going to improve.

“He’s a huge loss to them when he’s not available. Sometimes you don’t realise how good they are until they’re not available to you.

“You take them for granted, his goals and assists, and then when he’s missing you think ‘my goodness, he’s a big player for us’.”

OPINION

Mo Salah is undoubtedly one of the best players in the world right now, and when he is on his game, there are very few people who can do anything to stop him in his tracks. So far this season, you could probably argue that he hasn’t quite reach top gear, but he has still managed eight goals and four assists in all competitions, as well as 3.4 shots, two successful dribbles, and 1.6 key passes per game, as per Whoscored. He was sorely missed against Manchester United last week, and it is testament to just how good he is that Keane, famously difficult to impress and fiercely loyal to United, has seen fit to deliver such a glowing endorsement.
