Gary Lineker was blown away by Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain following his display in the 4-1 win over Genk on Wednesday.

The television presenter recapped the Reds’ goals against Genk just after the final-whistle and described Oxlade-Chamberlain’s second goal of the game as being something special.

“One from Mohamed Salah, one from Sadio Mane and two crackers from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and I think I know what was the pick of the four,” said Lineker on BT Sports’ coverage of Reds win over Genk (21:55, Wednesday, October 24th).

“Oxlade-Chamberlain’s second was something quite special, wasn’t it?”

The 26-year-old has been sparingly used by Jurgen Klopp this season as he has only started two Premier League matches so far.

OPINION

Oxlade-Chamberlain stole the show and the headlines for his display against Genk as his second goal was worthy of being replayed time and time again. The 26-year-old may not have registered a goal or an assist before Wednesday’s game, but his second effort probably now sees him winning the Reds’ goal of the season campaign, and his effort will be hard to beat. With Oxlade-Chamberlain being sparingly-used this season, he has played just a total of 228 minutes (Source: WhoScored), his goals weren’t the only pleasing part of his display, as it was just good to see him get 74 minutes under his belt without struggling. The attacking midfielder had an injury-hit 2018/19 campaign, so it’s just pleasing to see him making strides in his recovery as clearly he can’t be expected to be at his best after missing so much football. However with each passing game, he features in, he’s one step closer to being back to the peak of his powers.
