Liverpool would have to pay £87million for reported Reds transfer target Kai Havertz, according to Mundo Deportivo.

The Spanish outlet claims that Jurgen Klopp’s side – and any other Premier League team – would have to pay the aforementioned amount for the Bayer Leverkusen sensation.

Sport1 reported in August that Liverpool are in the hunt for the 20-year-old midfielder, who has burst onto the scene in the past couple of years.

However, when La Liga champions Barcelona enquired about the German international they were told that they would only be charged £61million.

OPINION

This isn’t very good news for Liverpool, is it? £87million doesn’t seem like a hugely unreasonable amount of money for an immensely talented young player like Havertz, so £61million is an absolute snip. With that said, you’d have to assume that Havertz will be heading off to the Nou Camp at some point in the near future. The thing is, though, Havertz could provide the positive creative influence the Reds have been missing in midfield ever since Philippe Coutinho left for Barcelona. The statistics from this season tell us that the young midfielder is a massive talent. As per WhoScored.com, Havertz has scored twice and grabbed an assist in seven Bundesliga games this campaign. Meanwhile, he is averaging 1.6 shots and two key passes per outing. Obviously he needs to improve in possession, as he currently averages 2.3 dispossessions and three unsuccessful touches per game, but his pass success rate is still a strong 86.4% for all that. He would fit perfectly in Klopp’s team, but this latest news makes that seem rather unlikely.
