Liverpool have stolen a march on Chelsea by inviting Exeter City’s teen sensation Ben Chrisene to Kirkby, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claims that the 15-year-old is attracting interest from both the Reds and the Blues, as well as Southampton and German giants Bayern Munich.

The 15-year-old made his first team debut for the Grecians against Coventry City in the Carabao Cup in August, becoming the club’s youngest ever player in the process.

Chelsea have already invited Chrisene to their training ground after witnessing his debut, but Liverpool have now got the edge by doing the same thing.

OPINION

The report doesn’t make it clear quite how Liverpool have stolen a march on Chelsea and the others by simply doing something Chelsea have already done, namely inviting him to their training ground. To make your debut at just 15 years of age is quite an achievement, even at the League Two level. He’s obviously someone who Exeter think very highly of and, given their track record of producing players, that’s quite an endorsement. Chelsea’s own Ethan Ampadu, now out on loan at Bundesliga side RB Leipzig, was the club’s previous youngest ever player. Both Liverpool and Chelsea will have to move quickly if they want to secure Chrisene’s signature, because Bayern are seemingly very, very keen on him as well. It’s going to be difficult for any 15-year-old to turn down a team as ginormous as the Bundesliga champions if they were to come calling, so the Reds need to get a wiggle on here, which is what it looks like they’ve done.
