Image for Merson raves about Alexander-Arnold for display v Leicester

Paul Merson was impressed by the performance of Trent Alexander-Arnold in Liverpool’s 2-1 win against Leicester at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.

Jurgen Klopp’s men preserved their 100 per cent start to the Premier League season with their eighth win in a row at the expense of Brendan Rodgers’ side, who were in good form before they travelled to Merseyside this weekend.

Alexander-Arnold was one of the key players for Liverpool throughout the match and Sky pundit Merson was thrilled with what he saw from the England right-back.

“What a chance for Firmino. The ball comes in from the right-hand side and he’s at the far post and misses a really good chance,” said Merson during the match on Sky Sports News on Saturday [03:33pm].

“But the quality was unbelievable, again, by Alexander-Arnold. He’s been absolutely outstanding.”

OPINION

Alexander-Arnold was terrific for Liverpool on Saturday. Klopp’s men did not create as many chances as they normally would against one of the best defences in the Premier League this season, based on goals conceded, but Alexander-Arnold was the one player who constantly provided opportunities with his play on the right flank. Liverpool really do have two of the best full-backs in world football. Alexander-Arnold combined well with Andrew Robertson on Wednesday night to supply an assist for the Scot to score versus Red Bull Salzburg. It was the Englishman combining with the other Reds attackers on Saturday against Leicester that should really have fans excited. Going into the international break it’s a shame that we won’t get to see the right-back in full flight for Liverpool for another couple of weeks. Hopefully he returns from England duty unscathed and ready to play against Manchester United.
