Life without Divock Origi at Liverpool would be a “scary thought”, according to James Milner.

The Belgian has established himself as a cult hero on Merseyside after scoring vital goals in the Champions League and a derby clash with Everton last season, and Milner has admitted that the prospect of not having him around is a daunting one.

Speaking in a promotion for his new book on Twitter, the veteran midfielder said: “I will try and contemplate what it would be like not to have Divock Origi in my life, which is a pretty scary thought.”

OPINION

Who would have thought this time last year that Origi could come to represent such a popular and significant member of this Liverpool squad? He doesn’t start every week, and he isn’t always effective, but when he is, the Belgian is borderline unplayable. He may not have really got going so far this term, but last season he averaged a goal every 122 minutes in the Premier League, as well as one every 72 minutes in the Champions League, as per Transfermarkt. He is a wonderfully impactful substitute, and you would struggle to find a side in Europe who wouldn’t want him filling the role that he does at Anfield. He is clearly a very popular figure behind the scenes too, and it seems that Milner is spot on here – nobody wants to think about life without Divock.
