Liverpool’s veteran midfielder James Milner has cracked the top 10 of a list of the Premier League’s 50 greatest players of the last decade.

With the 2010s about to come to an end, the Daily Mirror has compiled a list of the some of the best talents to grace the top flight over the past 10 years.

The Reds star came in at number eight. Ahead of him, from seven to one, were Harry Kane, Yaya Toure, David de Gea, Eden Hazard, Vincent Kompany, David Silva and Sergio Aguero.

Rounding out the top 10, behind Milner, were Gareth Bale in ninth and former Liverpool great Luis Suarez in tenth.

OPINION

Obviously lists of these type are entirely subjective, but it’s hard to argue with much of the top 10 at any rate. Aguero deserves the number one spot, there’s very little doubt about that. The Argentine international has scored a record 172 Premier League goals over the past decade, and remains in the conversation for the best attacker in the top flight. He is seemingly still at the peak of his powers at 31 years of age and remains absolutely pivotal to Pep Guardiola’s champions. Then there’s Silva, the magician who has conducted City’s rise to prominence with unrivalled grace and poise. Kompany makes up that phenomenal spine of the City team of the 2010s, a formidable defender and an even better leader. Milner is probably the least naturally talented of any of the top 10 here, but that merely serves as a testament to what hard work and his unrivalled determination can get you. He absolutely deserves his place at the top table.
