Bayern Munich’s superstar goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has heaped praise on Liverpool shot-stopper Alisson and his compatriot Ederson.

The World Cup winner has been the flag-bearer at the sport’s loneliest position for about a decade now, and he feels that the Brazilian duo are amongst the best between the sticks.

“There is a new Brazilian trend with Alison Becker in Liverpool and Ederson Moraes in Manchester City being full goalies,” he told France Football. “They master the modern game and are strong both feet.

“I like both, they are regular and their mistakes are rare. They are among the best in the world, just like Hugo Lloris, who is more of my generation and has just made a great year with Tottenham in the Champions League by reaching the final. We have several points in common as to our respective courses and we are both captain in club and selection. It’s someone I like a lot.”

OPINION

There’s no doubt that Alisson and Ederson have taken goalkeeping in English football to a new level over the past few years. These are two of the very best in the world at their position, which makes Brazil’s current situation with them both all the more enviable. They really are terrific. For them to receive praise from someone like Neuer, a World Cup winner who was the first sweeper-keeper of the modern era – a model both Alisson and Ederson have adopted – is a huge feather in their caps. The Liverpool man is the number one for his country, which perhaps tells you that he’s the slightly superior ‘keeper, but you certainly can’t go wrong with either of these two men. In the Premier League last season the Liverpool man averaged 1.9 shots saved per game, with a massive 1.1 of them coming from within the penalty area [Source: WhoScored.com]. That tells you everything you need to know about how impressive his pure shot-stopping ability is.
