Former Everton midfielder Leon Osman has heaped praise on Liverpool forward Sadio Mane, describing him as ‘a top player’.

The 27-year-old has been influential for the Reds once again this season, and Osman believes he will be absolutely key against Manchester United on Sunday.

“He’s a top player,” he said on The Analysis Show [16/10; 21:50]. “He started, despite him being an expensive player – I think £30million, he sort of came in under the radar, didn’t he?

“People talking about [Roberto] Firmino, people talking about [Mohamed] Salah, and of course Salah had that breakthrough season, but it’s Mane who has stepped to the fore these past 18 months and he’s been Liverpool’s top player.”

OPINION

There’s no doubt that Mane has been absolutely sensational for Jurgen Klopp’s team this season. The Senegal international seems to take his game to another level every season, and this campaign has been no different. He was arguably the Reds’ best player over the second half of last season, and has carried that form into this term. He is unpredictable, sometimes to his and his teammates’ detriment, but he has improved in that regard over the years. His finishing, once one of the areas he most needed to improve, is now amongst the best in the Premier League. You just have to look at his statistics from this campaign to see how devastating he has been for Liverpool. As per WhoScored.com, the former Southampton man has scored six goals and grabbed an assist in 10 games in all competitions this season, while he is averaging a fantastic 2.3 shots, 1.9 key passes and 1.9 dribbles per game. If Man United don’t get to grips with him on Sunday he will tear them apart.
