Michael Owen was clearly pleased for his former club Liverpool on Saturday when Wolves took the lead against Manchester City at the Etihad.

Adama Traore scored in the 80th minute before doubling his tally in stoppage time to earn a 2-0 win for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side and hand Man City their second Premier League defeat of the campaign, leaving them eight points behind leaders Liverpool.

Supporters on Merseyside would have no doubt been thrilled with the news of Traore’s goal, and Owen was well aware of that on social media.

“The red half of Liverpool erupts,” said Owen via his personal Twitter account in his instant reaction to Traore’s goal.

OPINION

Did anyone seriously predict that Wolves would beat Manchester City? And not only by one goal but by two, without reply? Pep Guardiola’s side have not done as well this season as they did last term and the injury to Kevin De Bruyne could have affected them in this match against Wolves because the Belgian has been one of the best players in the league so far. Sergio Aguero couldn’t score, Raheem Sterling couldn’t do anything and Ederson failed to keep a clean sheet. Wolves deserved that win against a poor City side and that is amazing news for everyone associated with Liverpool now that they have such a strong advantage at the top of the league. Liverpool have some tough league games after the international break. Manchester United, Tottenham, Aston Villa and Manchester City are their next four. In theory, they can afford to lose two of those games and still be top of the league. It really could be Liverpool’s year.
