Liverpool midfield starlet Curtis Jones could be in line to feature against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup next week, according to James Pearce.

The 18-year-old played in the third round win over MK Dons last month, and Pearce has suggested that his recent form could convince Jurgen Klopp to show further faith in him against the Gunners.

Writing in a Q&A for the Athletic, he said: “I watched the youth game yesterday and Curtis was great again.

“He’s developed so much over the course of 2019. I think he’ll feature v Arsenal next week.

“A loan in January is a possibility. A lot of clubs were keen on having him in the summer but Klopp wanted to keep him around the squad.”

OPINION

Jones has really caught the eye this season, and as Pearce points out here, he is looking better and better as the year goes on. In fact, he has been so impressive in the Premier League 2 that you wouldn’t bet against him being the next Liverpool starlet to make a proper stop up to the senior side, as Trent Alexander-Arnold did a few years ago. Three goals and three assists for the U23s this term, as per Transfermarkt, show a player who can create plenty from the centre of the park, and he could be the ideal foil to the more industrious stylings of Jordan Henderson or Gini Wijnaldum. As for the possibility of him leaving on loan in January, there are certainly pros and cons. On the one hand, regular senior game time can only be a good thing for a player at such an early stage in his career, but on the other where could be better for him to learn his craft than under the watchful eye of Jurgen Klopp?
