Harry Redknapp has claimed that there’s not a lot of difference in quality between Tottenham’s squad and that of Liverpool’s.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are reigning European champions and currently eight points clear at the top of the Premier League table while Spurs are beaten Champions League finalists and currently sit ninth in the standings, below Burnley and West Ham.

However that has not stopped Redknapp from making that claim about Spurs, who he also says are not far away from Premier League champions Manchester City.

“They’ve got the best stadium in the country, the best training ground. It’s all in place,” said Redknapp, as quoted by the Daily Mail.

“They’ve got a great group of players. It’s some squad, if you go through it, I don’t care what anybody says I don’t think there’s a lot between that squad and Liverpool’s and Man City’s squad, I really don’t.”

OPINION

There is a time to make claims like this and it certainly is not now. Spurs have been awful this season and are falling way short of expectations while Liverpool are absolutely flying at the top of the league. Man City and Liverpool’s squads are out there on their own as the best at the moment and while Spurs’ squad is perhaps the third-best in the league, they’re still nowhere near that of what Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp have at their disposal. Redknapp is just trying to big up his former club to show how badly they are underperforming now. While that is fair enough, sometimes people who are in the game and acting as pundits need to really think about what they are saying. Who from Tottenham’s squad, right now, gets into the Liverpool team? Christian Eriksen and Harry Kane are not in great form but based on their known quality, they are the only ones who come close. Redknapp should have thought that through before he said this.
