Liverpool star Andrew Robertson has been raving about John McGinn on Instagram after the Aston Villa midfielder scored a hat-trick for Scotland on Sunday night.

At a sodden Hampden Park, McGinn put San Marino to the sword and scored three times in the first half of Scotland’s 6-0 Euro 2020 qualifier win against the European minnows.

Robertson also played a role in the huge victory and took to his personal Instagram account after the match to heap praise on Villa’s central midfielder.

“Well done super John McGinn,” the left-back said.

OPINION

Scotland would have probably scored more than six if the weather had not affected the way the ball was moving on the pitch. It was unbelievable that the game was not called off or at least paused in the second half as the rain absolutely lashed it down in Glasgow. It appeared to affect Robertson’s side of the pitch more in the second period. There were big puddles out on the left and as a result, Scotland focused most of their play down the opposite flank, which stopped Robertson having as much an impact as he would have hoped. It was the right thing to do though because even the best left-back in the world was going to struggle in those conditions. Robertson has come out unscathed of this international break and that is great news because he is the only natural left-back in Liverpool’s senior squad. Yes, James Milner can play there but it remains to be seen how he would cope having an extended spell in that role.
