Chris Sutton has laughed at a Manchester United fan live on air for suggesting that they can beat Liverpool at Old Trafford tomorrow.

Jurgen Klopp’s men travel to their bitter rivals on Sunday knowing that a win would reopen an eight point gap at the top of the Premier League table over Manchester City, who beat Crystal Palace 2-0 in Saturday’s late kick-off.

Speaking ahead of the Reds’ clash, a Man United supporter rang into BBC Radio Five Live to suggest that his team would win the meeting 2-1 because they would be fired up for it.

Sutton immediately laughed off the claim, before adding: “You can get 11 people out of a pub who would be bang up for playing against Liverpool but it doesn’t mean they’re going to beat them.”

OPINION

There is always the possibility for an upset or a banana skin when Man United play Liverpool, purely because of the magnitude of the fixture and the pressure it leads to. That being said, if Liverpool could ever travel to Old Trafford confident in their ability to take away all three points, then this is the trip to do it on. After all, the Reds are now eight games unbeaten from the start of the season, while United have managed to win just twice in the Premier League. To give credit to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, they have only conceded eight goals in the top flight so far this term, just two more than Liverpool, but you can’t help feeling that if the Reds can get up and running, their attack will be too much for their hosts to handle.
