Naby Keita is set to start for Liverpool in their Champions League group stage clash against Genk in Belgium on Wednesday night, according to the London Evening Standard.

The newspaper claims that Jurgen Klopp is ready to unleash the 24-year-old after he impressed in his appearance against Manchester United at the weekend by being involved in Adam Lallana’s equaliser at Old Trafford.

Keita has played just four times across all competitions this season and has only started one game when he completed 63 minutes in the Carabao Cup win over MK Dons.

OPINION

Liverpool fans have hardly seen Keita this season due to his injury problem and the fact that Klopp has fallen onto a regular midfield trio of Jordan Henderson, Fabinho and Georginio Wijnaldum. James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have also appeared to have been ahead of Keita in the pecking order too, so it has been difficult for the former RB Leipzig midfielder to get game-time even when he has been fit. Keita’s performance versus Man United on Sunday was encouraging, even though he was only on the pitch for a matter of minutes. He played a role in Liverpool’s equalising goal, which is always a positive to build on. Genk should be a good team for Keita to start against on Wednesday. The Belgian side cannot be seen as a walkover as they are still a team that can put up a fight. Keita has a good chance to play his way into Klopp’s plans for this weekend’s action against Tottenham if he does well in Belgium.
