Anthony Martial could be available for Manchester United when they face Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday, according to Sky Sports.

The broadcaster claims that Martial, 23, is expected to train with the United first-team this week and “has a chance” of playing in the North-West derby showdown at the weekend.

Martial has been sidelined since August with a hamstring injury but it would seem as though he is in contention to return at just the right time for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as Man United aim to end Liverpool’s 100 per cent start to the campaign.

OPINION

Man United will definitely be boosted by Martial’s return to fitness – if he is able to play against top-of-the-table Liverpool on Sunday. The 23-year-old France international was in great form for the Red Devils before his hamstring injury, scoring two goals and supplying on assist in his three appearances this term. During his five-match absence in the Premier League, Man United have won just one game so he is certainly an important player that Solskjaer needs back. Man United are still unlikely to beat Liverpool though. Jurgen Klopp’s side seem unstoppable in the league at the moment and a very out-of-sorts United team is going to struggle to put a stop to that. Sure, United could get on the scoresheet, but does anyone really fancy that defence against Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino? They do not stand a chance, even with £250,000-a-week [Spotrac] ace Martial back in the team. It could take a while for him to get up to speed.
