Pedro Chirivella was among a clutch of young players to train with the Liverpool first-team ahead of their Carabao Cup clash against Arsenal at Anfield on Wednesday night, according to FourFourTwo and This is Anfield journalist Jack Lusby.

The reporter claimed via his personal Twitter account on Monday that Sepp van den Berg, Curtis Jones, Neco Williams, Morgan Boyes, Leighton Clarkson, Billy Koumetio, Luis Longstaff, Jakub Ojrzynski, Herbie Kane and Harvey Elliott had also been involved in Jurgen Klopp’s senior squad ahead of the fixture.

Chirivella, 22, has only made six first-team appearances during his time at Liverpool but it seems as though there is a chance he will be able to make his seventh on Wednesday night when Arsenal make their way to Merseyside.

OPINION

Chirivella is someone who is likely to be fighting for his future at Liverpool this season because as it stands, the midfielder’s contract with the club expires next summer. Chirivella joined Liverpool in 2015 and in that time has barely featured in the first-team. He’s had a few loan spells away with varying degrees of success, but they have only been at teams like Willem II and Go Ahead Eagles. Even if he did impress at those clubs, he’s still going to struggle to show he’s good enough for the Premier League with lesser Dutch sides. Chirivella does seem to be being handed a chance by Jurgen Klopp, at least. He’s trained with the first-team ahead of the Arsenal match and he was also handed 27 minutes’ worth of game-time off the bench against MK Dons in the last round of the Carabao Cup. Chirivella cannot be written off just yet but there’s still a good chance he will be on his way out of the Anfield next summer.
