OPINION
It was not an amazing first-half performance by Liverpool on Saturday. Leicester did well to repel most of their attacks until Sadio Mane hit the back of the net not long before the break. Some supporters have taken aim at Georginio Wijnaldum for what they believe to be an “anonymous” performance by the Dutchman in the opening 45 minutes. They’re not wrong. According to stats by WhoScored, Wijnaldum completed fewer passes than any of Liverpool’s midfielders or defenders. He did complete one dribble before the break, but overall, the former Newcastle player was definitely quieter than most of his team-mates. You can understand the reaction from Liverpool fans in that case and maybe after playing against Red Bull Salzburg on Wednesday, the Dutch international could do with a bit of a rest. Jurgen Klopp could take him off soon and hand either Jordan Henderson or Naby Keita an appearance off the bench.
