Liverpool fans slam Wijnaldum in 2-1 win v Tottenham

Georginio Wijnaldum is definitely someone who splits opinion among Liverpool supporters on social media, especially when things are not going completely in the way of the reigning European champions. In the 2-1 win against Tottenham at Anfield on Sunday, Wijnaldum was once again the scapegoat among some fans on Twitter who were not at all happy with his performance in the centre of the midfield. Based on stats by WhoScored, Wijnaldum did not play bad enough to warrant this level of criticism. He completed 95 per cent of his passes and no other Liverpool starter managed to have a higher pass accuracy. The Dutchman also made one tackle, one interception and was dispossessed just once, so it is not as if he had a nightmare against Tottenham. These Liverpool fans just seem to have it in for Wijnaldum. Even if his performance is slightly average, they will pounce on him. Liverpool are top of the table but you would not guess that at all based on these tweets.

Wijnaldum 5: Never impacted the game defensively or offensively. Hid from receiving the ball & when he did have it he passed it to VVD. Didn’t put in one sprint press & was walked past for their goal. Awful attempt of a tackle
