Liverpool are hopeful that prolific forward Mohamed Salah will be fit to face Manchester United after the international break, according to the Irish Independent.

The newspaper revealed on their website that a scan on the Egyptian international’s ankle had revealed no serious damage and that he had only suffered a twisted ankle after a challenge by Leicester City’s Hamza Choudhury.

The Irish Independent report that the 27-year-old will undergo treatment at Melwood in the next fortnight, with the Reds hopeful he can return for the game at Old Trafford.

Salah left Anfield unaided after the 2-1 win over Leicester on Saturday, after avoiding ligament damage to his ankle.

OPINION

Salah would be a massive miss for Jurgen Klopp’s side, given the fact that he has continued his fine form from the previous couple of seasons. The Egyptian international has picked up where he left off and has been involved in the most goals by a single Reds’ player this campaign with seven. The 27-year-old has played every single game of the season and would have played every minute if it weren’t for the injury he picked up. Salah has averaged 3.3 shots on goal per game according to WhoScored, the most in the entire Liverpool squad as he maintains a constant threat for opposing sides in the final third. Klopp will be nervous to potentially lose one of his front three for the game against Manchester United, with each of them so important to how Liverpool work. The Reds will be desperate to get Salah fit for the game at Old Trafford, and the international break came at the perfect time for him to do just that, with the next two weeks surely set aside for his rehabilitation at Melwood.
