Liverpool have opened talks over the potential signing of Red Bull Leipzig forward Timo Werner, according to transfer expert Ian McGarry.

The expert has claimed that negotiations have been opened and they are continuing between the two clubs over a move to Anfield in the future.

McGarry reported that Werner is keen to link up with Jurgen Klopp in his career, and would welcome the potential of making the move to the Premier League leaders.

“What we can tell you on the transfer window today is that Liverpool have begun the process of formal negotiations with RB Leipzig for the player’s transfer,” he said on the Transfer Window Podcast.

“We understand that contact has been made and indeed is ongoing between Liverpool and the German Bundesliga side and that Werner himself is keen for a move to Anfield.

“Of course, he would link up with countryman Jurgen Klopp.”

The 23-year-old has already managed to score eight goals in his 12 domestic and European fixtures this season, which has seen him cement his place as a striker in the German national team.

Well, wouldn’t this be a great move for Liverpool and Klopp? The German international has already become a world-class striker despite being so young, and he would not only add much-needed strength in depth for the Reds to continually compete with Manchester City, but enough to go past them in the future. Liverpool clearly have the upper hand in any negotiations surrounding Werner, and the fact that the Leipzig forward would be keen to make the move and work under his fellow German means that it would be a surprise to see him move anywhere else in the upcoming transfer windows. Werner is a massive threat in the final third and has averaged 3.6 shots on goal as well as two key passes in each game this season according to WhoScored – highlighting the dangerous ability he has to not only score goals but to also consistently create them for his teammates.
