Liverpool defender Joel Matip has declared himself fully fit for the game against Manchester United on Sunday.

The £100,000-a-week enforcer [Spotrac] was a doubt for the fixture after picking up a knock in the victory against Sheffield United which ruled him out of the game against Leicester City at Anfield before the international break.

Matip has come out and admitted that he has fully recovered from the setback, and hopes to remain fully fit for the remainder of the season now he has returned.

“I’m back in training and hopefully I will stay fit,” he told Liverpool’s official website.

“I’m back in training and I feel good. Of course, if I’m needed, I will be there.”

Liverpool travel to Old Trafford looking to extend their winning run which has seen them extend their gap at the top to eight points in the Premier League.

OPINION

This is great news for Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp, with Matip being one of his standout performers in the past season or so. The Cameroon international has gone under-the-radar before with his success alongside Virgil van Dijk and has finally come into the spotlight since the beginning of the season, winning the Premier League Player of the Month award for September for his hand in Liverpool’s unbeaten run, the recognition he clearly deserved for his start to the campaign. The 28-year-old has been incredible in the six games he has started in this campaign, even scoring an important goal against Arsenal at Anfield. Matip has averaged 1.8 tackles per game according to WhoScored, as well as 5.2 clearances in the heart of the defence. Despite Manchester United struggling at this moment, a trip to Old Trafford is never easy and having his strongest options in defence available will definitely please Klopp on Sunday.
