Tim Sherwood has claimed that Liverpool and Michael Edwards stole Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain from Arsenal back in 2017.

The former Tottenham manager admitted that he believes that the England international will be a massive player for both club and country this season and that Jurgen Klopp will know how to get the best out of him.

Sherwood heaped praise on Edwards, claiming he would have been given the type of player that Klopp wanted at the time, and went out and sealed a move for the 26-year-old.

“Michael Edwards, the sporting director there at Liverpool, doesn’t waste much money,” he told BeIN Sports.

“Jurgen Klopp would have told him the characteristics of a player, and he went and stole him from Arsenal, Oxlade-Chamberlain.

“I believe, giving him a run of games, hasn’t materialised yet cause of injuries, Jurgen Klopp will get the best out of that kid.

“He for sure will be a big, big player for Liverpool and England.”

OPINION

It is a brave call to say that Liverpool stole Oxlade-Chamberlain, but when you consider some of the money being spent on players this year, £35million comes across as a potential bargain for the Reds. Before picking up an injury which forced him to miss the majority of last season, the England international was picking up a head of steam, and if he can start to rediscover that form in this campaign, there will be no doubting that Liverpool will be delighted with that piece of business. His two goals against Genk in the Champions League on Wednesday certainly got him off to a perfect start, and Klopp will be expecting that form to continue, as the former Gunners’ man can add much-needed goals from the midfield going forward. Oxlade-Chamberlain adds great power and pace in the middle of a three and has the ability to push forward as well as defend, all of these things will be vital in Liverpool’s push for their first-ever Premier League title, and if they can secure that, there will be no doubting that the 26-year-old was a real bargain.
