Noel Whelan has claimed that Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has the potential to become a Premier League superstar.

The BBC pundit believes that the England international returning to full fitness after his injury lay-off will be a massive boost to Jurgen Klopp’s side this season.

Whelan was left drooling over the impact Oxlade-Chamberlain made off the bench against Manchester United in the 1-1 draw on Sunday at Old Trafford, claiming he brings an added electricity to the Reds’ midfield going forward.

“He’s starting to look sharp after that horrible injury and I predict big things from him this season,” he told Football Insider.

“He’s young and hungry, and has the quality to be a Premier League superstar.”

“A fully fit Oxlade-Chamberlain is a massive boost to the squad.”

Oxlade-Chamberlain has made just a couple of starts for Liverpool this season after missing the majority of the past year after rupturing his cruciate ligaments.

OPINION

Oxlade-Chamberlain definitely has the ability to be a Premier League superstar and will be more eager than ever to prove that after his long-term injury. The 26-year-old was well on his way to becoming a star at Anfield before the setback, with his goal against Manchester City in the Champions League just a taster of what he can bring to the table for the Reds. With Fabinho and Jordan Henderson a lot more defensive for Liverpool, Oxlade-Chamberlain has the ability to come on to the pitch and make a difference going forward, with his pace and power two attributes that can cause opposition sides real problems at the back. The England international came on against Manchester United and instantly changed the game, having two shots on goal, one which almost handed his side all three points from the edge of the box. If Oxlade-Chamberlain continues to do the same for his side then Klopp will be left with no choice but to hand the midfielder more chances to prove himself in the middle of the park.
