Rhian Brewster was not involved in Liverpool first-team training on Tuesday ahead of their clash against Napoli, according to Goal journalist Jack Sear.

The reporter also revealed via his personal Twitter account that Sepp van den Berg and Neco Williams were nowhere to be seen at Melwood ahead of Wednesday night’s penultimate Champions League group stage fixture at Anfield.

There were young players who took part in senior training though, with Pedro Chirivella, Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott said to be involved.

OPINION

It seems as though Brewster will not be in the squad to take on Napoli at Anfield on Wednesday night if he is not training with the first-team ahead of the match. Brewster has started to feature more regularly lately with the 19-year-old forward on the bench for the win against Genk last month while he has also played in both of the Reds’ Carabao Cup wins this season. Brewster is a great young player who will no doubt go far in the game but he needs to be getting more game-time. As we approach the festive period, where there will be a lot of matches to play, it’s likely that we will see even more of the England Under-21 international. He might play against Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup and could be involved in the Premier League around Christmas and the New Year if Jurgen Klopp seeks to rotate his squad a bit. It’s a shame he’s not going to feature against Napoli but there’s always the last Champions League group stage game to come, which could be a dead-rubber tie where Klopp will use youngsters like Brewster.
