Garth Crooks has named Andrew Robertson in his team of the week following the Liverpool left-back’s performance in the 2-1 win against Aston Villa in the West Midlands on Saturday.

Robertson, 25, scored a late equaliser for the Reds before Sadio Mane ended up rounding off the victory deep into stoppage time.

BBC Sport pundit Crooks has been full of praise for Robertson after he managed to get into the penalty area to head the ball past Tom Heaton and has now made a big claim about the Premier League trophy potentially heading to Merseyside for the first time.

“It’s looking ominous now,” said Crooks on the BBC Sport website. “Liverpool’s last-minute victory, set up by Andy Robertson’s brilliant header, is what titles are made of.

“I remember this club dominating the scene during my own playing days – they did it then by wearing the opposition down and providing the killer touch in the dying seconds, and they are doing the same thing again 25 years later.

“For Robertson to find himself so high up the pitch at that stage in the game, only to be found by the most exquisite ball from Sadio Mane, says it all.

“Liverpool mean business.”

OPINION

Why would Crooks say this now? Does he not realise who Liverpool are playing against this weekend? People are talking up the Reds way too much at a stage of the season that is way too early. Yes, it was a superb comeback by Jurgen Klopp’s men to earn all three points at Villa Park but at the end of the day, this is against a team who finished fifth in the Championship last season. Liverpool are expected to win matches like that and not too much should be made of it in terms of the Premier League title other than it was a very good win. Liverpool are six points clear of Manchester City at the top of the table but that gap could be cut down to three points this weekend when Pep Guardiola’s men travel to Anfield. Man City came from behind to win against Southampton on Saturday, so anything the Reds can do, the reigning champions can do as well.
