Danny Murphy has claimed that he could see Tottenham forward Harry Kane fitting into the Liverpool starting line-up ahead of Roberto Firmino.

Kane, 26, has been in good goalscoring form for Spurs this season despite the troubles that Mauricio Pochettino’s side has endured and Murphy has discussed whether the England captain could move on from North London in the summer.

As shown via talkSPORT’s official Twitter account on Wednesday, Murphy said: “Liverpool or Manchester City, would he get in both teams? Would Liverpool and City fans take Harry Kane now?

“I think Harry Kane would get into the Liverpool team ahead of Firmino because I think he’d score more goals.

“I love Firmino but he’s not Harry Kane.”

The ex-Liverpool midfielder added: “What would he cost? That would be another issue because you’ve got FFP as well. It could be a world-record.”

Kane has scored 10 goals in 15 appearances across all competitions for Tottenham this season and has 131 goals to his name so far in the Premier League.

When host Adrian Durham brought up Kane’s goalscoring record, Murphy simply said: “Phenomenal.”

OPINION

Why do so many pundits fail to appreciate Firmino? Jurgen Klopp does not build his side around a goalscoring striker, he builds his side around a striker who is just as good as link-up play with fellow attackers as he is at sticking the ball in the back of the net. Firmino is the man who makes Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane tick. Firmino is the man who if you take him out of the starting line-up, you notice it more than anyone else. This is not to say that Firmino is better than Kane or Kane is better than Firmino, this is to say that they are two strikers who are very good at what they do but are different to one another. Kane’s link-up play is good. He loves to come deep and find passes to fellow attackers but who would you rather see on the ball in a tight area or have to rely upon to show an extra yard of pace to get to a ball? Firmino. Kane is a world-class centre-forward who should be someone who Liverpool fans want to see in their side. But do they need him? All you have to do is look at the current Premier League standings and check who are the reigning European champions to find out.
