Danny Higginbotham confidently backed Manchester City attacker Sergio Aguero to score against Liverpool on Sunday.

The Sky Sports pundit claimed that the Man City forward was improving, despite already being one of the best centre-forwards in the world, and highlighted his ability to hit the back of the net more often than not.

Higginbotham added that he thought Aguero would be on the scoresheet against the Reds as he is a big-game player.

“It seemed to me if he was rested in the Champions League yesterday in order to be ready for this game and what I would say he keeps getting better,” said Higginbotham on Match Centre (Sky Sports News, 11:24am, Thursday, November 7th).

“He was already one of the best centre-forwards in world football, but he has gone on another level with his movement, he is not concerned about dropping deep or playing on the left or the right.

“If you give him an opportunity it usually ends up in the back of the net, do I think he will score at the weekend? Yep I think he will as he is a big-game player and like you say, the goals that he scores…I think he will be on the scoresheet.”

OPINION

Higginbotham avoided predicting the scoreline but it seems that Liverpool will have to at least score two goals in his eyes if they’re going to get all three points. This is a realistic assumption as not only do Man City have Aguero and a host of other potential goalscorers in their team such as Raheem Sterling, but the Reds haven’t been unbeatable at the back so far. Jurgen Klopp’s side have only managed two clean sheets in the Premier League so far and have conceded nine goals in 11 league outings, so you feel Aguero will fancy his chances. The 31-year-old has scored 13 goals across all competitions for Pep Guardiola’s side this season, and has remarkably averaged a goal every 73 minutes (Source: BBC Sport). Aguero hasn’t been that wasteful in front of goal either as 43% of his shots have at the very least worked the keeper. Hopefully, the Reds have enough firepower upfront to make sure Aguero potentially scoring doesn’t cost them on Sunday.
