Liverpool are unlikely to make a move for unsettled Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen, according to The Athletic journalist Oliver Kay.

The £75,000-a-week Spurs ace [Spotrac] has been linked with a move away from north London in recent times, as per Marca, after being unable to agree terms on a new contract.

But Kay is doubtful of him joining up with Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.

When asked about a potential switch for the Dane by a fan during a Q&A for The Athletic, he said: “It’s not a link I’ve heard, but funnily enough I was discussing Eriksen with a contact (not at Liverpool) recently and we both agreed that he would be an ideal free-transfer signing for any of the other leading Premier League clubs – including Manchester City and Liverpool.”

OPINION

Eriksen at Liverpool is a truly mouthwatering prospect. The Dane has struggled to make the kind of impact he perhaps would have liked to this season, but there’s still no doubt that on his day he is a world class player, and the sooner he can find himself a new club, the sooner he can start putting in the kind of displays that we all expect from him. With Mauricio Pochettino benching him for large parts of the opening stages of this season, it has hardly been a vintage campaign for Eriksen so far, and yet he is still averaging 1.9 key passes per 90 minutes in the Premier League, as well as 2.2 shots on goal, as per Whoscored. For a side like Liverpool, who are regularly accused of lacking a forward-thinking creative force in their engine room, it’s fairly clear that he would be an ideal fit, as Kay suggests, but the chances of this deal ever happening look minimal at best.
