Adam Lallana could leave Liverpool in the January transfer window amid new interest from China and MLS, according to the Telegraph.

The newspaper claims that Liverpool do want to offer Lallana, 31, a new contract as his current terms expire at the end of the season and Jurgen Klopp is a fan of the midfielder’s leadership and versatility.

However it is understood that clubs from the USA and the Far East would offer the ex-Southampton ace a longer deal and increased chances of first-team football if they were to step up their interest in him ahead of the transfer window reopening in January.

OPINION

Lallana has not played a lot of football for Liverpool lately. He started in the 2-1 win against Aston Villa on Saturday, which was his first Premier League start of the season. Lallana also played a role in the Carabao Cup win against Arsenal in the week and scored the equaling goal against Manchester United at Old Trafford. Lallana’s had a good few weeks but that should not distract Klopp and Michael Edwards from the fact that the midfielder is reportedly earning £110,000-a-week [Spotrac] to just be a bit-part player. Liverpool could save – and make – a lot of money from selling Lallana in the January transfer window and maybe replacing him with someone a lot younger who shows similar versatility. However Klopp cannot be blamed for wanting to keep his squad together until the end of the season. Liverpool’s unity is one of their best features and that could be something to keep in mind if bids come in for Lallana in January.
