James Maddison has taken to Twitter to praise Virgil van Dijk for surprising a lifelong Liverpool fan.

In a video shared to the Reds’ Twitter account on Wednesday, the Dutchman is shown spending a day with ardent Kopite David, taking him on tour Melwood and meeting various players.

Sharing that video to his personal account, the Leicester City and England star said: “Great watch”.

OPINION

This will no doubt have piqued interest on Merseyside. The playmaker has already been linked with a move to Anfield before, as per ESPN, and the fact that he’s taking such an active interest in goings on at Liverpool will surely get some tongues wagging. Obviously, this is no indication that this means anything other than Maddison acknowledging that Van Dijk is a stand up guy, but if we allow ourselves to dream for a second, what a signing he would be for Jurgen Klopp’s men. So far this season, he has averaged three shots, 2.3 key passes, and 2.4 successful dribbles per game in the Premier League, as per Whoscored, and his average match rating of 7.70 puts him third overall in the division’s current form table. He wouldn’t come cheap, and there’s no guarantee that Klopp would even be interested, but just imagine if this actually came off.
