Charlie Nicholas has heaped praise on Andrew Robertson for his “brave” goal in Liverpool’s 2-1 win against Aston Villa in the West Midlands on Saturday afternoon.

Robertson scored a crucial 87th-minute equaliser for the Reds before Sadio Mane eventually won the three points for Jurgen Klopp’s side deep into stoppage time.

Nicholas was impressed by the desire shown by the Scotland international as he stuck a header past Villa ‘keeper Tom Heaton.

“Mane looks up and he just pings one with his left foot into the back-post area, not picking anyone in particular out,” said Nicholas after the match, as shown via Sky Sports’ website.

“But Robertson’s desire to get there was unbelievable.

“And it’s brave because he has to go and put his head in there, where it could hurt.”

OPINION

Robertson has been a real stand-out for Liverpool in the last couple of seasons and it was great to see the former Hull left-back getting onto the scoresheet on Saturday. It is usually him who is setting up the goals but this time, Robertson grabbed his second goal of the season and his first in this season’s Premier League campaign. Aston Villa put up a good fight against Liverpool but in the end, the never say die attitude of the players and the constant stream of attacking runs into the penalty area got the better of Dean Smith’s side. Robertson is without doubt one of the best left-backs in the world at the moment and Liverpool fans are very lucky to have a team that consists of him and Trent Alexander-Arnold. Watching those two together in this Liverpool side, bombing down each of the wings, is a joy to behold sometimes.
