Liverpool defender Andy Robertson is an “inspiration”, according to Scotland teammate Liam Palmer.

The Sheffield Wednesday ace, 28, has been eager to sing the praises of his international skipper, claiming that his quality is a huge boost in the dressing room.

Speaking to The Athletic, he said: “Obviously Andy has been in back-to-back Champions League finals and to say you share a dressing room with someone of that calibre is great — you learn a lot as a full-back as well.

“He’s the captain and he leads by example on and off the pitch.

“It is a real inspiration to be around him — he has that relentless desire to perform at the top level. It’s something that you can draw upon and try and do yourself.”

OPINION

This is really pleasing to hear. Robertson is arguably one of, if not the, finest left-back in European football at the moment, and we all know about his meteoric rise from his early days as a part-time player to Champions League winner. But what’s nice about this is that it really gives an insight into Robertson’s attitude too. It shows that he is a hard worker, and that he is a shining example to those around him. That can often get overlooked at times, but it really is just as important as anything else for a footballer hoping to make it to the very top. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that Robertson is absolutely flying on the field too. So far this term he has averaged a Whoscored rating of 7.30, and his quality is no doubt a massive boost to his country. By the sounds of it though, so is his winning mentality and all-round demeanour.
