There is no truth in rumours suggesting that Liverpool could make a move for PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe, according to James Pearce.

The World Cup winner has been linked with a move to Anfield by a report from Spanish outlet El Desmarque, but Pearce is unimpressed by the claim.

Writing in a Q&A for The Athletic, he said: “I’m not aware of any truth in those rumours.

“It would be an incredibly expensive deal and I don’t think Nike would help fund it.”

OPINION

Well this is a real shame, isn’t it? Liverpool fans have been slowly building themselves into a frenzy over these Mbappe rumours, and while many will no doubt  be fully aware that it was always going to be a pipe dream, it will still come as a disappointment that it is unlikely to happen. It is truly frightening how good Mbappe is. So far this season, he has averaged 4.1 shots per game in Ligue 1, as well as 1.7 key passes, and 3.1 successful dribbles, as per Whoscored. He also has a match rating of 7.99, a total bested only by Kevin De Bruyne in the Premier League this season. If there is a consolation, however, it is that Liverpool are doing fine without the Frenchman. They’re not exactly short on attacking talent, and as good as Mbappe is, if his arrival meant kicking Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino, or Sadio Mane out of the starting lineup then you’d have to ask if it would be the right thing to pursue.
