Liverpool left-back Andrew Robertson has admitted that he is yet to fully recover from an ankle injury.

The 25-year-old has played every minute of every Premier League fixture so far this season but ruled himself out of Scotland’s recent international matches so that he could nurse himself back to fitness.

However it seems as though Robertson is yet to see his ankle back to 100 per cent despite starting for Liverpool in the win against Crystal Palace at the weekend.

“It’s been better, just a bit stiff after matches and something I can manage with. I feel fresh and hopefully that continues,” said Robertson on Tuesday, as quoted by PA journalist Carl Markham via his personal Twitter account.

OPINION

Liverpool pretty much have to win against Napoli on Wednesday if they want to lift any doubt about their chances of qualification to the Champions League knock-out rounds. A victory against the Serie A side would secure top spot in the group but a defeat – or even a draw – could lead to their being an element of doubt. It’s not a must-win match, but the game against Red Bull Salzburg in Austria next month could be if they don’t win on Wednesday. That is why, even though Robertson has admitted his ankle is not 100 per cent, the Scotland international is likely to start regardless against Carlo Ancelotti’s side. Robertson has played so well for Liverpool this season that Jurgen Klopp cannot afford to leave him out. James Milner would more than likely replace the ex-Hull full-back if he was to miss out but that would be quite a risk.
