Former England international Martin Keown has named four Liverpool players in his England XI, but Chris Sutton and Peter Crouch have only picked two.

The three former England stars were asked by the Daily Mail to submit their preferred Three Lions line-up, and they all went for a 4-3-3 formation, with Sutton and Crouch going for the same team.

Keown’s selection was: Pickford; Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Maguire, Chilwell; Oxlade-Chamberlain, Henderson, Mount; Sterling, Kane, Rashford.

Sutton and Crouch both went for: Pickford; Alexander-Arnold, Maguire, Stones, Chilwell; Oxlade-Chamberlain, Winks, Maddison; Sterling, Kane, Rashford.

OPINION

Keown is clearly very enamoured by the Premier League standard-bearers, and why not? Liverpool are the best team in the country, so it makes sense that he would want as many Reds as possible in his England team. However, there will be those who take exception to some of his picks. There are question marks over whether Joe Gomez will get enough regular football between now and the end of the season to be first choice alongside Harry Maguire at the heart of the defence. Meanwhile, Jordan Henderson continues to have his detractors despite all he has achieved in the game. He gives the Three Lions midfield balance, yet Sutton and Crouch would prefer to go with the more attack-minded trio of Harry Winks, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Maddison. It seems like everyone wants ‘The Ox’ involved, as they do with Trent Alexander-Arnold, but whether Henderson and Gomez are England starters appears to remain up for debate.
