Curtis Jones could be in the Liverpool squad for their showdown against Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday, according to FourFourTwo and This is Anfield journalist Jack Lusby.

The reporter claimed via his personal Twitter account on Sunday morning that Jones, 18, had not been named to feature in the Under-23s squad, meaning that he could be in line for a spot in Jurgen Klopp’s plans for the clash with Man City.

Jones has never made a Premier League appearance for Liverpool but was on the bench for the win against Genk in the Champions League on Tuesday night and has played twice in the Carabao Cup this season.

OPINION

What a day it could be for Jones. Even if he is named on the bench by Klopp it will be a huge moment in the youngster’s budding career. Jones has been in great form for the Under-23s side this season and really deserves a chance to shine in the senior squad. He’s scored five goals and supplied four assists in Premier League 2 for the Liverpool development side and also made a massive impact in the first-team when they beat Arsenal in the Carabao Cup last week. Jones can play on the left-wing, up front or as a central midfielder so his versatility is bound to mean that he is going to get more first-team opportunities than others, just because it is easy for Klopp to fit him into his plans. If Jones is on the bench on Sunday, it is unlikely he will get on the pitch unless there are injury issues or Liverpool are comfortably winning. However it would be great to see him earn a league debut for Liverpool, even if it is for a matter of minutes.
