COMMENTARY

Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard revealed in an interview that Liverpool were interested in his services when he was younger, and many Reds fans used it as an opportunity to question his ability. The 26-year-old admitted on Manchester United’s official podcast, as transcribed by the Daily Mail, that Liverpool were one on many teams keen on him when he was nine-years-old, but that he always knew United was the club for him. Several Reds fans slammed Lingard by saying how lucky Liverpool were to miss out on him, while one supporter claimed the midfielder was stealing a living at Old Trafford and another even stated that the midfielder is only good enough to be Trent Alexander-Arnold’s waterboy at best. Considering that Lingard is struggling for form at the moment, these comments coming out aren’t exactly perfectly timed. The 26-year-old hasn’t registered a goal or assist this season as of yet, and has seen his playing time dry up a bit as he’s only played in 10 league matches. It’s also worth noting Lingard is yet to complete 90 minutes in the league this season.
